ASCCC OERI – Seeking Discipline Leads
The ASCCC OERI is recruiting faculty to support our OER advocacy efforts by serving as Discipline Leads for the upcoming academic year. The specific tasks of each Discipline Lead will be determined by the status of the discipline. All Discipline Leads will serve as a resource for their discipline colleagues and will typically host at least one virtual event each term. Discipline Leads receive a stipend of $600 at the end of each term upon completion of their specified tasks. Discipline Leads may also be engaged to accomplish specific tasks during a time frame that is less than a term.
Faculty in all disciplines are encouraged to submit an application. The ASCCC OERI is currently seeking a Discipline Lead for each of the following disciplines:
- Agriculture
- Alternative Fuels and Advanced Transportation Technology
- Asian American Studies
- Automotive Technology
- Commercial Music
- Counseling
- Data Science
- Dental Assistant

- Emergency Medical Services

Minimum Qualifications
- California community college faculty (full-time or part-time)
- Experience teaching at least 3 different courses in the discipline
- Foundational knowledge of OER
Desired Qualifications
- Curriculum experience, especially work related to C-ID and TMC/MC
- OER author or adopter
- OER advocacy experience
- Faculty leadership experience
While preference will be given to applicants who have experience with OER, the OERI welcomes applications from those with discipline expertise and a desire to become an OER advocate.

Typical Discipline Lead Tasks
- Update or develop a curated collection for the discipline
- Review resources for the discipline as identified by C-ID in COOL4Ed (this site allows faculty to identify the OER they are using – we want to ensure the data are accurate and use this data to inform our resource list) (COOL4Ed Course Materials Showcase)
- Prioritize discipline needs
- Update – or develop – discipline collection by Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) or Model Curriculum (MC) (if applicable)
- Conduct one discipline showcase webinar or one discipline conversation per term. A “conversation” is an informal webinar that is not recorded unless requested and emphasizes discussion
- Serve as a discipline resource
ASCCC OERI Seeking New Leads: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (IDEA) and Distance Education (DE)
The OERI is recruiting faculty for two important lead roles. Each requires the ability to work independently to identify ways to achieve the goal of establishing connections between the role’s focus, OER, and the OERI. As a member of the OERI leadership team, both leads will meet weekly with the rest of the team to participate in planning, information sharing, and problem solving. While OER experience is desired, it is one of many factors to be considered as applicants are reviewed. Below are additional details for each lead.
ASCCC OERI IDEA Lead (20 – 40% reassigned time)
The ASCCC OERI IDEA Framework Lead is involved in implementing the IDEA Framework by informing discipline-based application of the framework through work with OERI Discipline Leads, providing guidance regarding the implementation of the Framework at the local level, and assisting faculty developing OER in incorporating IDEA principles into their projects. The successful applicant will continue the work of the outgoing IDEA Lead that includes activities such as increasing the availability of trained IDEA Reviewers and developing (and implementing) a process for selecting and refining OER through application of the framework.
IDEA Lead Minimum Qualifications
- California community college faculty (full-time or part-time)
- Expertise or training in IDEA principles
IDEA Lead Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge and /or experience applying IDEA concepts
- Scholarly expertise in anti-racism
- Lived experience in marginalized communities
- OER author or adopter
ASCCC OERI DE Lead (20 – 40% reassigned time)
The ASCCC OERI DE Lead is involved in establishing connections between OERI and the DE community, identifying opportunities to showcase OER in distance education spaces, and finding ways to collaborate with the California Virtual Campus, Distance Education Coordinators’ Organization, and individual online instructors. The OERI DE Lead is an OER advocate who looks for opportunities to leverage OER in DE. As this is a relatively new position, the successful applicant will have the freedom to develop the role in consultation with OERI leadership.
DE Lead Minimum Qualifications
- California community college faculty (full-time or part-time)
- Extensive experience with online instruction
DE Lead Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge and /or experience with POCR
- Instructional design experience
- OER author or adopter
- LibreTexts experience
