ASCCC Privacy Policy

Your privacy is of great importance to the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC). We are committed to protecting your privacy and using technology that gives you the most powerful and safe online experience. By using the ASCCC website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Collection of your Personal Information

ASCCC collects personally identifiable information, such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address or telephone number only if specifically and knowingly provided by you. ASCCC also collects anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your ZIP code, age, gender, preferences, interests and favorites.

There is also information about your computer hardware and software that is automatically collected such as: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses.

Use of your Personal Information

ASCCC collects and uses your information for the operation of your services and to provide general statistics regarding use of this website. ASCCC may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or of potential new services that may be offered.

ASCCC does not sell, rent, or lease its customer lists to third parties. ASCCC will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on ASCCC or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of ASCCC; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of ASCCC, or the public.

Use of Cookies

The ASCCC website uses “cookies” to help you personalize your online experience. A cookie is a small file created by your web browser to assign a unique identification to your computer. These cookies are used by the site to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. Cookies are not used to retrieve personal information about you from your computer nor to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the ASCCC services or websites you visit.

Security of your Personal Information

ASCCC secures the personally identifiable information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. It is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.

How long we retain your data.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. If you register on our website (if needed), we will store the personal information you provide in your user profile. As a user, you can see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit your registration information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Changes to this Statement

ASCCC will occasionally update this Statement of Privacy to reflect organization and user feedback. It is recommended you periodically review this Statement for any updates on how ASCCC is protecting your information.
