ASCCC Open Educational Resources Initiative (OERI) OER Development Support Options

Access this page directly using tinyurl.com/OERI-Support.

Since its inception, the OERI has been providing OER-related professional development opportunities across the state and developing resources to support OER exploration, advocacy, institutionalization, and development. In addition, through five OER-development funding cycles, the OERI has developed a comprehensive process for facilitating OER development that consists of the following components: ASCCC OERI OER Development Support Options printable flyer.

  1. Project management throughout resource development
  2. Clarify deliverables (e.g., how many chapters a book will consist of with titles/topics and approximate pages, what type and how many questions a test bank will consist of)
  3. Establish timelines and deadlines
  4. Develop templates (e.g., chapter structure – objectives, format, types of headings, etc. – so the look and feel has consistency)
  5. Provide OER basics and accessibility training (self-paced courses with office hours to support). Read about and access the OERI’s self-paced courses.
  6. Provide platform training – LibreTexts, H5P, MyOpenMath, etc. LibreTexts is a platform for OER development, curation, re-mixing, and collaboration. In addition, available openly-licensed systems for creating assessments and interactive content (like H5P and MyOpenMath) are available within LibreTexts.
  7. Recruit additional participants (as might be needed if specific expertise is missing or collaboration is wanted)
  8. Accessibility review (and Universal Design for Learning, if desired)
  9. Attribution review
  10. Content review (peer review)
  11. Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (IDEA) review

As colleges may need assistance in OER development as they establish zero-textbook-cost (ZTC) pathways, the OERI is prepared to tailor its support to meet your local needs, or you can select from one of the following options.
